When Moving Home or Your Favourite Childhood Possessions there is an Alternative to Using the Train  "When this young woman entered the train into London, it was full of people. And I am sure like me they all wanted to know her story. What's with the chair I asked? It was her nan's, with lots of childhood memories and she wanted to bring it home to her London flat. Her only transport option was the train and Tube. She was worried staff wouldn't let her on the Tube with the chair. So, if you are thinking of moving your favourite pieces of furniture and possessions then let JWD Eastbourne Removals help you. Just like the lady in the picture we could have helped her to make the move and moved a lot more too, saving her the stress of travelling on the railways and the exertion of carrying one of her favourite childhood heirlooms across town. . ends. Millions of UK Commuters Will Have to pay an Average of 3.1% MORE for Rail Tickets from 2 January 2019 It is the largest increase since January 2013, according to Office of Rail and Road data, and is more than the 2.9% rise for this year. About 40% of fares, including season tickets, will be affected. The rise, announced by industry body the Rail Delivery Group, comes after a year of timetable chaos, strikes, and delays on some parts of the network. It is regulated by the UK, Scottish and Welsh governments and is predominantly capped at July's RPI figure, which was 3.2%. It means another £100 - £300 on the cost of some season tickets. There had been calls for prices to be frozen following chaos caused by the implementation of new timetables in May. ends. World Chess Championship: World Number One Magnus Carlsen Retains Title World number one Norwegian Magnus Carlsen has retained his World Chess Championship title, beating US opponent Fabiano Caruana in a tie-breaker event.  He beat Caruana in three time-limited games, ending the American's hopes of becoming the first US champion since Bobby Fischer won in 1972. This showdown followed a record-breaking streak of 12 drawn games of regular chess. Carlsen told the BBC that the win was "huge for me". "Fabiano played very well and he's an extremely strong player so it's very special," he said. "It was very tense for these whole three weeks and there was no point in particular where I felt I was going to win the match. I didn't particularly feel that I was losing it either. It was always hanging in the balance." Caruana, however, told Norway's NRK TV that he had had a "bad day"."I didn't even put up a fight,&qu

UK ports face 'major disruption' in case of no-deal Brexit, MPs warn There is a "real prospect" of "major disruption" at UK ports in the case of a no-deal Brexit, according to MPs.  The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said government preparations for avoiding disruption around major ports were "worryingly under-developed". Committee members also said there was a "real risk" the Department for Transport (DfT) would not be ready for a hard Brexit. The DfT said the committee's conclusions were not "accurate". In a statement it said it was "both disappointed and surprised" that the PAC had "failed to reflect" the evidence in the National Audit Office's report "which found that the department has made a determined effort in its preparations and achieved a great deal". The UK is set to leave the EU on 29 March 2019. 'Too little, too late' The PAC recommended that the DfT should wr

Bombardier Transportation, which is bidding to win a £2.75 billion contract to build the high-speed trains in a joint venture with Hitachi Rail, is developing technology which would enable click-and-collect services on board. Martin Rennoldson, sales director at Bombardier, said the 225mph trains would be “very convenient and very passenger-centric”. He told the Press Association: “You could pre-order your coffee or sandwich. It could be that you pre-order and arrange to collect your Amazon parcels. “The train would enable lots of things, so we’d certainly work with the operator to develop the wider passenger experience.” He added: “The journ

The Californian transportation company, which launched in early 2017 but is already valued at $1.1bn (£860m), has spread rapidly across the US and parts of Europe. The bikes, which can be located and unlocked via the Lime phone app, will cost £1 to unlock and 15p a minute to ride - a 28% higher charge than that paid by American users while the pound sustains its value, and significantly higher than other e-bike sharing schemes that have launched in the UK. However, Lime claims the scheme will be first fully dockless e-bike business in the UK. Dockless bikes have not fared well in the UK so far, with Mobike withdrawing from Manchester after a high ra

Little evidence 20mph speed limit reduces casualties

Little evidence 20mph speed limit reduces casualties, says report UK study also finds majority of vehicles break speed limit in residential areas There is insufficient evidence that a 20mph speed limit has led to a significant reduction in the number of crashes and casualties in UK residential areas, a government-commissioned study has found. There has been substantial growth in the number of 20mph limits enforced following the Department for Transport’s decision in 2013 to encourage local authorities to consider the measure in an attempt to reduce casualties and increase levels of walking and cycling. The report also found a majority of drivers break the speed limit in 20mph zones in residential areas. 47% of motorists comply with the limit on roads near houses, rising to 65% in city centres. Although a “substantial proportion” of drivers are speeding in those areas, there has been an increase in the number travelling at less than 24mph, which suggests “faster drivers have
