UK ports face 'major disruption' in case of no-deal Brexit, MPs warn There is a "real prospect" of "major disruption" at UK ports in the case of a no-deal Brexit, according to MPs. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said government preparations for avoiding disruption around major ports were "worryingly under-developed". Committee members also said there was a "real risk" the Department for Transport (DfT) would not be ready for a hard Brexit. The DfT said the committee's conclusions were not "accurate". In a statement it said it was "both disappointed and surprised" that the PAC had "failed to reflect" the evidence in the National Audit Office's report "which found that the department has made a determined effort in its preparations and achieved a great deal". UK Government is working on a new house sale agreement for England which is set to make the process faster and avoid sales of homes falling through. It will be trialled later this year, Housing Minister Heather Wheeler told the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) annual conference. The aim is to develop a standard reservation agreement and officials are working with the industry led Home Buying and Selling Group and there could be compensation for those who lose money as a result of failed sale. Wheeler pointed out that research from the Department for Business shows that 70% of buyers and 66% of sellers thought their sale wouldn’t go through to completion, even after the offer was accepted. ‘Too many people are walking on a tightrope from the moment they put in that offer.
